What this site is, what it is not, and the limits of what you can rely on.

This site is educational and is not an operational weather source. Nothing here is a forecast, an observation, a briefing or an aeronautical information product. The authoritative source for any flight is the meteorological service designated by the state concerned, obtained through an official briefing channel.

No flight may be planned or conducted on the strength of anything on this site. The pilot in command is the sole authority for the operation of the aircraft. Our guides explain what reports contain and what hazards do; they never say whether a particular flight should depart, divert or continue.

The decoder is a reading aid, not a validated tool. It parses standard report formats and can be wrong about a non-standard, truncated or corrupted report. Always read the raw text alongside it, and treat a disagreement between the two as a reason to trust the raw text.

Thresholds change and vary by state. Minimums, runway condition reporting and de-icing procedures are set nationally and by the operator. Where we quote a figure it is the common published value, not the one that necessarily applies to your operation, aircraft or licence.

Accuracy and availability. We correct errors as we find them and re-date the affected guide, but we do not warrant that every page is complete or current, or that the site is available without interruption.

Content ownership. The text and design of this site belong to us. Quoting a passage with a link back is welcome; republishing whole guides is not.
